Thought of the Week 4-3-2008

Thought of the Week 4-3-2008

"The freedom to do your best means nothing unless you are willing to do your best."

-Colin Powell: 65th U.S. secretary of state

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent new minutes. And you can’t save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you’ve wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow. –Denis Waitely

Tip of the Day:
"Time pressure can have powerful effects on the body. Our brain regards clocks, deadlines, and interrupted schedules as a threat, and calls up the "fight or flight" stress response. The incessant struggle to do more and more in less and less time also makes us more likely to respond with toxic anger to anyone or anything slowing us down. Trying to control time by strict scheduling is like trying to control what we eat by strict dieting. We become so obsessed with it that it becomes more — not less — important in our lives. If we relax our grip and stop seeing time as an enemy to be beaten into submission, time relaxes its grip on us. Learning some specific time management skills can help." Dr. David Sobel, Medical Director for Health Education at Kaiser Permanente, shares some tips in this article. [ more ]

Submitted by: Paul Van Slambrouck

Be The Change:
Try implementing one of the time management techniques Dr. Sobel suggests in the above article.

I personally attended a Franklin Covey Seminar called FOCUS and it totally revolutionized EVERYTHING about my time-management style. If you are interested in signing up and learning to use a Franklin Covey planner, you can do that here. Or, better yet, try going to this site and actually watch a webcast from their archive! IT’S FREE!!!! DO THE FREE ONLINE COURSE HERE!

Have a great week!

Kill the Kings – Sermon 3-30-2008

This is the sermon from Sunday morning. It will probably be one of the pivotal sermons in our church history. The title is: “Kill the Kings.” The passage is Isaiah Chapter 6 and the heartbeat of the sermon is that until we both corporately and individually dethrone our “personal” kings, we cannot see the LORD high and lifted up!

Thought of the Week 3-28-2008

Thought of the Week 3-28-2008

“To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.”

-Mahatma Gandhi

Good News of the Day:
Earthworms are the original recyclers. They eat garbage, shred plant residue, and then spread the broken-down matter as they burrow into the ground. The worms also mix and aerate the soil, improve its drainage, and provide channels for roots to take hold. With the help of a talented social entrepreneur, hard work, and good luck, earthworms are making history again at TerraCycle Inc. The eco-friendly gardening supply company, which turns worm castings into organic liquid plant fertilizer, is affirming the green movement’s place in mainstream business. Terra Cycle makes organic plant food, but also uses recycled soda bottles and other recycled containers to package all its products. Although the company purchases most of its recycled packaging from professional suppliers, it also reimburses charities and schoolchildren for sending in their recyclables. The Stanford Social Innovation Review profiles Terra Cycle. [ more ]

Be The Change:
Learn more about home composting with this step-by-step guide. [ more ]

I just thought this was interesting for this week.

I guess being as busy as I have been lately, I am just homesick for the farm!

Have a great day!

Breakthrough: The Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty

 header

Dear leaders, and especially all my sisters,

I want to invite you to join me for Breakthrough: The Women, Faith and Development Summit to End Global Poverty. The event will take place at the Washington National Cathedral on Sunday, April 13th, and speakers will include such luminaries as Bishop Desmond Tutu and Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. My good friend, Kathy Morrell (who worked with me on the Halifax Summit in Nov. 2006), is one of the “forces of nature” behind this event, and I think it will be a wonderful learning opportunity for all who are able to attend. (If you cannot make it for the morning, you can jump in for the afternoon sessions; the event should not conflict with our evening service.) This Summit is free and open to the public as long as you pre-register while spaces are still available.  I encourage all those who are especially passionate about poverty and women’s issues to attend.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Blessings,
Lisa

About Our Story and this Software

This post goes out to all you wonderful people called church planters out there. We were blessed when we started the Tapestry by a group who created a software called Adoration. The software is a basic presentation software and we used it for our first three years in ministry.

We have long since changed software, however, I watched as this small company who provided us with this amazing blessing of free software stopped supporting their work and eventually shut down their site. Recently I saw some other sites taking advantage of the software and making it for sale since this company is no longer selling it. But, before this company totally shut down, they made their software free to church planters.

They posted their code and allowed people to download the free demo version, input the code and use the software in order to get started into ministry.

In the same heartbeat, we are hosting this software here.

DOWNLOAD ADORATION HERE

The Code is: CBCD-E3GC-CCC-RC6C

If you have any questions, this software is no longer supported, however, hopefully, we will later add some posts of things that can help you use it better.

We hope this helps and blesses and in some way continues on what our fellow believers who created Adoration had started!

And if you guys are reading this, thanks for sharing your wonderful work. The Tapestry would not be here today without you!

Blessings!
