Is This What You Are Looking For?

How to Upload Files to Your Web Hosting Account With FTP.

How to Upload your files to your website:

Using your FTP client, we can make this a fairly simple and painless process. Simply look at the pictures and follow the steps just below them and you will be posting and uploading your files, images and pages to your website in no timae at all!

Login to your account and then you will see:
1.    “Web Hosting” (Mouseover this and it will expand the menu).
2.    Click “My Hosting Accounts.”

Then, you will be logged into your account where you will be able to “manage hosting.”
1.    Click “open,” located under “control panel,” which is just to the right of “Hosting Account”

Once you click that, you will see the page just below. This is your “Hosting Control Center.”

Inside your “Hosting Control Center,” Mouseover “Content” on the menubar. The menu will then expand and you can see, “FTP Client.”

“Click FTP Client.”

Allow the Java screen to fully load and then you will see…

Your “FTP Client.” It looks just like this. The list on the left is the file system on your computer and the list on the right is your file system on the web server where you web pages are hosted.

On your file system on the left, navigate through your files to the place you saved your web page. (Also, remember that if you saved your files in your “My Documents” folder or on your “Desktop,” you will have to navigate by going this way…

C:\ -> Documents and Settings -> “your user name” -> (then either desktop or my documents)

Once you have located your files that you wish to transfer to your web host, then find the location on the right where you want them saved. This is very simple if you have never uploaded before, simply LEAVE this where it is. Your index.html file will automatically become your homepage when you upload it! Then…

Highlight the files on the left that you want to transfer and click the arrow in the center pointing right.

It looks like this: “>>.”

Voila! Your files are transferred. If you take too long in this screen, you may get an error that states the socket has reset or timed out or something. This is a safety feature and all you need to do is go back to the menu bar and reload your FTP Client.

Enjoy!

Thought of the Week 1-9-2008

“Only in quiet waters do things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world.”

-Hans Margolius

Fact of the Day:
"I want you to watch TV with acute awareness, mindfulness, and precision. 1) Watch any TV show for 15 minutes without turning on the sound. 2) Watch any news program for 15 minutes without turning on the sound. 3) Watch television set for one half-hour with out turning it on." So begins this thought-provoking essay that sharply urges a change in the way we as individuals and as a society, watch TV. [ more ]

Be The Change:
Try and bring more mindfulness to your own TV watching.

Some more thoughts:

I actually am attempting this year to do EVERYTHING I do, centering on my purposes.

These purposes tell me what my goals are and from my goals, I have strategies as to how to reach my goals in a S.M.A.R.T. way.

My purposes are derived from my values and those values come from the Wheel of Life concept.

With this said, time management is less a function of what I do and more a function of all the things I believe and value.

Thus:

Values-> Purposes-> Strategies-> Goals

My values include:

-Health

-Wealth

-Family & Friends

-Playtime and Hobbies

-Relationships

-Career

-Personal Space

-Spirituality & Contribution

TV is under Playtime and hobbies. So, it is ONLY one eighth of my value set and I don’t want to use the entire allotted time on just that as my singular hobby. So, that means out of a day that goes from 6am until about 1am, I have ONLY this much time for it in an average week:

16.625 hours for it every week. Now, this sounds like a lot of time until you find that an average Joe in the US spends 4 hours in front of the TV. Which means:

TV TIME (Average US guy)

Day – 4 hours

Week – 28 hours

Month – 120 hours

Year – 1460 hours

10 years – 14,600 hours

85 year lifetime – 124,100 hours of TV!!!!!!!

Maybe this year, we should resolve to turn the TV off more or at least watch it on purpose when we do watch it…

Just some thoughts. Be sure to read the article referenced above. It is really interesting.

Have a great day!

dh

The Totally Virtual Office Top Ten List, Volume 1, Online Storage

I am going to make this article as informative in as few words as possible. I know if you found this post, you are looking for solutions for your online storage needs. If you are going to have a virtual office with collaboration on documents and not have your own server to upkeep and maintain, you are going to have to use virtual storage. And depending on your software needs, you may need to get a virtual or dedicated co-located server. I will share some of the free, cheap and easiest options on up to the more expensive solutions.

So, let’s get started!

Let’s start with the free options.

Mediafire

These guys are one of my favorites and they have so many great options like:

  1. Share files and images with all of your friends and upload them only once.
  2. Link to files from your MySpace page, your blog, or forums.
  3. Upload an unlimited number of files to share with friends and family or storage.
  4. Use folders to easily share groups of files or create galleries for all your images.
  5. No registration necessary and no software to install.
  6. Keep frequently used files online for easy access from any computer with an internet connection.

The downsides of MediaFire are that thy are not quite as secure as some of the other options and they online have an online upload interface.

Student Hosting

These guys are our personal favorite. We currently use them as our solution. Though we have accounts with each, these guys have stayed the easiest to use and have a desktop application called, “Drive Locker,” which allows you to drag and drop your files right into their system. Just like mediafire, they have unlimited file hosting, however, they ONLY allow you to upload 3GB per month!

They make it very easy to share your files, however, not quite as easy as these next folks we want to introduce you to…

4Shared.com

These guys have a free and paid solution. I LOVE theseguys. They have the best ways to share your files through secure sites and portals. They are the most versatile of all the groups that I have found. However, there are TONS of ads on the free solutions and a few times, I have found my site still open when I return due to a glitch. I am sure these issues will soon be addressed and I know we haven’t seen the best from these guys yet!

They have so many features, that I think the best way to share their info is to give you a link here: (CLICK HERE) for their features and plans.

XDrive.com

XDrive.com is a very neat solution. I like it not because it really ranks with the rest, but because it is easy to use, it has a nice interface and it is connected to your AOL IM (AIM) Screen Name. Yes folks, this is another one of those quick thinker; AOL’s solutions!

Xdrive Features

  • Back up your valuable files – your music, photos and more – automatically.
  • Conveniently access all your files from anywhere.
  • Easily share your files with friends and family.
  • Get 5GB for Free!

Now for the paid stuff:

If you need more than a simple file saving and sharing solution, and you want to host your applications, software and office solutions, you are going to want something more. Co-Location is the plan for you. You can do so much more with one of these solutions.

Holy Worldwide I believe has the most competitive options right now.

Add Google Translation to your site!

Here is what I did. I made a simple form script and every time I use it, I simply change the website address on each line. For example, the website on this script is my favorite church in the world’s site: www.tapestrychurch.net. So, all you have to do to use this script is simply copy the code into your sidebar or page and change the referring address from that address to whatever your page’s address is. It’s very simply and Google doesn’t mind. This is a free service they offer and you are welcome to use it. I really like Google’s version much better than Babel-Fish. We have found that the folks in our community who speak the languages in general like Google’s translations better.

Also, Google has many other languages you can add to this tool, by simply using this link to translate your page and add the link to the script below. Try it here: http://www.google.com/language_tools

One more thing I like about Google’s translator is that they encourage the larger community to help build their project. So, use the code and enjoy!

For an example of the code, see the right sidebar: “Translate!” Heading

For the code, copy the below and paste into your html editor or into WordPress’ Theme Editor:

<————————Begin Code———-Copy Below this line————————–>

<form name=”jump”>
