Is This What You Are Looking For?

Message From Mission Team in Colombia!

Hey Guys,

Here is the encouraging message I just got from Pastor Jose in Colombia! Let this encourage and inspire you and let’s keep praying for he and Lina this week!!!!

Blessings!

pd

Jose’s Message:

at missionary time.  Martin gets up at  4:30 am for devotions,
and to answer his email and make lesson plans.  School starts at 630 am.

On Saturday, we went to the slum church at La Reliquia.  The kids there sang the Bible songs that Martin teaches them with such vigor that puts all of us adults to shame.  Only AB could match their enthusiasm.  About 80 kids from this slum show up every Saturday at 5pm.  They get crackers and juice, and also, church people send a bag of clothes to pass out.  There is a neighbor that does not want the church to build a secure structure, but Martin’s group (2 elders and wives) is doing so much that I know he will be won over eventually.  Reminds me of Sanballat and Tobiah in Nehemiah’s day.  I taught a group of adults a lesson while Martin taught a kids lesson with music and coloring Bible characters.

I preached on Sunday  to a very healthy mother church that meets in Peniel school grounds of 150 adults plus a large number of youth.  They have 5 elders including Martin, and they have praise teams that rotate with preachers to support the churches that have been planted.  Martin’s home base is the school teaching role, but on weekends, he is an evangelist/worship leader wherever he needs to go.

By the way, Dustin, google Marcos Witt and his music.  It is well written and used all over Latin America.  You will learn Spanish very quickly with it.

I appreciate your continued prayers.  There is a family with a mother who has Lupus; I prayed for her healing so please pray as well.  Our visit with cousin Walbert went very well and yielded GREAT contacts for Lina and I.  I found a basketball coach in Cartagena and Lina met a lady that works with an NGO from Norway.  We have lots of people to contact for Lina so that she can find human rights work in Colombia through an internship; especially in Cartagena.

Well, we are off to school to meet some wonderful kids that we saw in church.  Lina should be sending pictures soon.

God’s richest blessings,

tu hermano jose

Just a Thought | An OLD Emaill Review from pd

Hey Guys,

I just got a note from Yireh reminding me of one of the old emails I sent out a year ago. It is really pretty good and encouraged me today, which is funny since often I don’t reread my own stuff. However, I wanted to forward the chain back to all of us and say that this is a great reread! 😉

Have a great week!

Dustin Hedrick

Lead Pastor

NOTE FROM YIREH:

Hey PD,

Re-reading some of the old stuff and just wanted to encourage you today how much it continues to speak to me. Keep at it pastor, the sheep are growing!

Lots of love,

YRM

PD’s OLD EMAIL:

Hey Guys,

I will be sending a more formal Thread email later about a topic that Devin has encouraged me to review. It will be about “De-Teching” & being a physical minimalist in order to be a spiritual giant.

But, before I send that, I came across this message by Henry Blackaby and wanted to send it today. I wanted to remind us to every time we read Scripture, stop and ask Poppa to speak to us. Every time we hear a sermon, ask Poppa to speak to us personally about it. And I mean, literally stopping before we listen, read or whatever and say, “Poppa, please speak to me and apply this to my life…”

And then just during the listening or reading, literally focusing in and asking yourself over and over during the exercise, “How does this apply to me?”

If we do that and then journal our results, I think we would be amazed to see what Poppa speaks. We can even do this with news, current events and/or experiences in our day to day lives. For instance, “Jesus, what are you doing in Haiti right now and how can I help You?”

You get it? I mean, you may not always find relevance, but at least you can keep the conversation with God the Father, Jesus and Spirit open and available. It may help you even make better sense out of the challenges and trials in life. And you know, I have found it is fun to connect the dots. It’s like life is a huge puzzle and I am always trying to put the pieces together. I mean, the truth is that EVERYTHING has a purpose. I just have to see what that purpose is and maximize the potential.

Hope that makes sense…

Blessings!

The Penetrating Word of God

Day-by-Day

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Heb 4:12)

Does God’s word ever cause you discomfort? When you read the Bible does what you read make you uneasy? Do you find when you listen to sermons, that the Scripture seems aimed directly at you? You are experiencing the reality that the word of God is alive and can read your thoughts and judge your intentions.

When God’s word speaks to you it is always for a purpose. God knows your heart and knows what you need to do to bring your life into conformity to Christ. If you have a problem with sinful talk, the word that comes to you will address the tongue. If you are struggling to forgive, God’s word will confront you with His standard for forgiveness. If pride has a stronghold in your life, God’s word will speak to you about humility. Whatever sin needs addressing, you will find you are confronted by God’s word on the matter.

One way you can escape the discomfort of conviction is to avoid hearing God speak to you. You may neglect reading your Bible and stay away from places where it is taught. You may avoid those whom you know will uphold the truths of Scripture. The best response, however, is to pray as the psalmist did: “Search me, O God, and know my heart” (Ps. 139:23). Regularly allow the word of God to wash over you and find any sin or impurity (Eph. 5:26). Always make the connection between your life and what God is saying to you through His word. Make a habit of taking every word from God seriously, knowing that it is able to judge your heart and mind.

 H Blackaby

The Submission of a Believer | Oswald Chambers

You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am -John 13:13

Our Lord never insists on having authority over us. He never says, "You will submit to me." No, He leaves us perfectly free to choose- so free, in fact, that we can spit in His face or we can put Him to death, as others have done; and yet He will never say a word. But once His life has been created in me through His redemption, I instantly recognize His right to absolute authority over me. It is a complete and effective domination, in which I acknowledge that "You are worthy, O Lord . . ." (Revelation 4:11). It is simply the unworthiness within me that refuses to bow down or to submit to one who is worthy. When I meet someone who is more holy than myself, and I don't recognize his worthiness, nor obey his instructions for me, it is a sign of my own unworthiness being revealed. God teaches us by using these people who are a little better than we are; not better intellectually, but more holy. And He continues to do so until we willingly submit. Then the whole attitude of our life is one of obedience to Him.

If our Lord insisted on our obedience, He would simply become a taskmaster and cease to have any real authority. He never insists on obedience, but when we truly see Him we will instantly obey Him. Then He is easily Lord of our life, and we live in adoration of Him from morning till night. The level of my growth in grace is revealed by the way I look at obedience. We should have a much higher view of the word obedience, rescuing it from the mire of the world. Obedience is only possible between people who are equals in their relationship to each other; like the relationship between father and son, not that between master and servant. Jesus showed this relationship by saying, "I and My Father are one" (John 10:30). ". . . though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered" (Hebrews 5:8). The Son was obedient as our Redeemer, because He was the Son, not in order to become God's Son.

This Experience Must Come | Oswald Chambers

Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha . . . saw him no more -2 Kings 2:11-12

It is not wrong for you to depend on your "Elijah" for as long as God gives him to you. But remember that the time will come when he must leave and will no longer be your guide and your leader, because God does not intend for him to stay. Even the thought of that causes you to say, "I cannot continue without my 'Elijah.' " Yet God says you must continue.

Alone at Your "Jordan" (Kings 2:14). The Jordan River represents the type of separation where you have no fellowship with anyone else, and where no one else can take your responsibility from you. You now have to put to the test what you learned when you were with your "Elijah." You have been to the Jordan over and over again with Elijah, but now you are facing it alone. There is no use in saying that you cannot go- the experience is here, and you must go. If you truly want to know whether or not God is the God your faith believes Him to be, then go through your "Jordan" alone.

Alone at Your "Jericho" (2 Kings 2:15). Jericho represents the place where you have seen your "Elijah" do great things. Yet when you come alone to your "Jericho," you have a strong reluctance to take the initiative and trust in God, wanting, instead, for someone else to take it for you. But if you remain true to what you learned while with your "Elijah," you will receive a sign, as Elisha did, that God is with you.

Alone at Your "Bethel" (2 Kings 2:23). At your "Bethel" you will find yourself at your wits' end but at the beginning of God's wisdom. When you come to your wits' end and feel inclined to panic- don't! Stand true to God and He will bring out His truth in a way that will make your life an expression of worship. Put into practice what you learned while with your "Elijah"- use his mantle and pray (see 2 Kings 2:13-14). Make a determination to trust in God, and do not even look for Elijah anymore.

Do Not Quench the Spirit | Oswald Chambers

Do not quench the Spirit -1 Thessalonians 5:19

The voice of the Spirit of God is as gentle as a summer breeze- so gentle that unless you are living in complete fellowship and oneness with God, you will never hear it. The sense of warning and restraint that the Spirit gives comes to us in the most amazingly gentle ways. And if you are not sensitive enough to detect His voice, you will quench it, and your spiritual life will be impaired. This sense of restraint will always come as a "still small voice" (1 Kings 19:12), so faint that no one except a saint of God will notice it.

Beware if in sharing your personal testimony you continually have to look back, saying, "Once, a number of years ago, I was saved." If you have put your "hand to the plow" and are walking in the light, there is no "looking back"- the past is instilled into the present wonder of fellowship and oneness with God (Luke 9:62 ; also see 1 John 1:6-7). If you get out of the light, you become a sentimental Christian, and live only on your memories, and your testimony will have a hard metallic ring to it. Beware of trying to cover up your present refusal to "walk in the light" by recalling your past experiences when you did "walk in the light" (1 John 1:7). When-ever the Spirit gives you that sense of restraint, call a halt and make things right, or else you will go on quenching and grieving Him without even knowing it.

Suppose God brings you to a crisis and you almost endure it, but not completely. He will engineer the crisis again, but this time some of the intensity will be lost. You will have less discernment and more humiliation at having disobeyed. If you continue to grieve His Spirit, there will come a time when that crisis cannot be repeated, because you have totally quenched Him. But if you will go on through the crisis, your life will become a hymn of praise to God. Never become attached to anything that continues to hurt God. For you to be free of it, God must be allowed to hurt whatever it may be.
