The Right Kind of Help | Oswald Chambers

And I, if I am lifted up . . . will draw all peoples to Myself -John 12:32

Very few of us have any understanding of the reason why Jesus Christ died. If sympathy is all that human beings need, then the Cross of Christ is an absurdity and there is absolutely no need for it. What the world needs is not "a little bit of love," but major surgery.

When you find yourself face to face with a person who is spiritually lost, remind yourself of Jesus Christ on the cross. If that person can get to God in any other way, then the Cross of Christ is unnecessary. If you think you are helping lost people with your sympathy and understanding, you are a traitor to Jesus Christ. You must have a right-standing relationship with Him yourself, and pour your life out in helping others in His way- not in a human way that ignores God. The theme of the world's religion today is to serve in a pleasant, non-confrontational manner.

But our only priority must be to present Jesus Christ crucified- to lift Him up all the time (see 1 Corinthians 2:2). Every belief that is not firmly rooted in the Cross of Christ will lead people astray. If the worker himself believes in Jesus Christ and is trusting in the reality of redemption, his words will be compelling to others. What is extremely important is for the worker's simple relationship with Jesus Christ to be strong and growing. His usefulness to God depends on that, and that alone.

The calling of a New Testament worker is to expose sin and to reveal Jesus Christ as Savior. Consequently, he cannot always be charming and friendly, but must be willing to be stern to accomplish major surgery. We are sent by God to lift up Jesus Christ, not to give wonderfully beautiful speeches. We must be willing to examine others as deeply as God has examined us. We must also be sharply intent on sensing those Scripture passages that will drive the truth home, and then not be afraid to apply them.

About Iraq | A Thought from pd

About Iraq

I remember the call for war in 2003 and I recall the moment I heard it, where I was and what I felt. Things had definitely changed for the USA for good or bad and they would never be the same.

However, wasn't that the case anyway? I mean, it was in 2001 that our very simple way of American life was shattered for another generation and things that were never meant to be had happened so atrociously. We would never be the same.

And now today, we hear of the end of a long war. Costly, long and painful it was. However, today instead of doing what so many are and only seeing the downside and loss. I want to instead take a moment to be still and remember. A moment to bless. A moment to encourage. A moment to celebrate.

Celebration? What would I celebrate?

Life…

Let us take a moment before it escapes us and say, "THANK YOU!" to the ones that gave their lives. The ones that paid the prices for our liberty and our nation's continued prosperity. Take a moment and tell a service member thank you whether they were in the battles in Iraq or simply were serving in reserve duty here in the states. If you see someone in a uniform in the airport, the mall or anywhere else in public. Stop them where they are and say, "Thank you for what you do for us. Thank you for serving. Thank you for your sacrifice or even better, just a simple, stoic, quiet, honest, reverent, gentle, 'Thank you.'"

To all the service members in our wonderful church community and outside, this is one pastor that wants you to know that I am proud to know you. I am proud of you. I am here for you and your family.

THANK YOU!

Take a second after reading this and pray for all of our military members in the USA. And take another moment and pray for the peace of Iraq.

Thank you!
pd

Intercessory Prayer | Oswald Chambers

. . . men always ought to pray and not lose heart -Luke 18:1

You cannot truly intercede through prayer if you do not believe in the reality of redemption. Instead, you will simply be turning intercession into useless sympathy for others, which will serve only to increase the contentment they have for remaining out of touch with God. True intercession involves bringing the person, or the circumstance that seems to be crashing in on you, before God, until you are changed by His attitude toward that person or circumstance. Intercession means to "fill up . . . [with] what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ" (Colossians 1:24), and this is precisely why there are so few intercessors. People describe intercession by saying, "It is putting yourself in someone else's place." That is not true! Intercession is putting yourself in God's place; it is having His mind and His perspective.

As an intercessor, be careful not to seek too much information from God regarding the situation you are praying about, because you may be overwhelmed. If you know too much, more than God has ordained for you to know, you can't pray; the circumstances of the people become so overpowering that you are no longer able to get to the underlying truth.

Our work is to be in such close contact with God that we may have His mind about everything, but we shirk that responsibility by substituting doing for interceding. And yet intercession is the only thing that has no drawbacks, because it keeps our relationship completely open with God.

What we must avoid in intercession is praying for someone to be simply "patched up." We must pray that person completely through into contact with the very life of God. Think of the number of people God has brought across our path, only to see us drop them! When we pray on the basis of redemption, God creates something He can create in no other way than through intercessory prayer.

Every country is their home, every home is a foreign country…

Perspective

Perspective: def n: 1) A picture drawn in such a way, esp. one appearing to enlarge or extend the actual space or to give the effect of distance. 2) a mental view or outlook.
That being said, let me paint a picture for you. I'd suggest you close your eyes to better envision this but then your eyes would be closed and you couldn't read this so let's skip that step.
Picture this. Take a journey beyond sight and sound…. no wait.
Ok seriously now. Imagine a day worker hanging out outside home depot. Imagine a teenage girl – maybe 17 or 18 – who is pregnant and unmarried. Now imagine a kid that grew up in the projects.
Now take that picture in your head of those three people and call them Joseph, Mary, and Jesus.
That's not perspective, that's what scholars call a close approximation to the historical truth. Joseph lost his family land and had to take up "Carpentry" which meant less of building tables and cabinets and more working on construction projects. Mary was a young girl (the word so often translated as "virgin" has a connotation or assumption of a young age) and was unmarried when she was pregnant with Jesus – teen pregnancy. Because of the financial strain and hardship in the region due to various taxes and the constant fight against roman rule, it is unlikely that Jesus grew up anywhere other than the 1st century equivalent of the projects.
Perspective is what happens when you call every day worker the man who raised Jesus, when you call every pregnant teen the woman who raised Jesus, and when you call every kid trying to make it on the streets "Jesus."
"I assure you,: whatever you did for on of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me." Matthew 25:40

THE THRIVE SERIES | NOW ONLINE!

The Thrive Series is online and up to date!

I have been so very encouraged by the number of people that have wanted this series of talks from the Tapestry. It has been an amazing thing to watch weekly as GOD has done so many amazing things among us. I have watched as people have gone from broken to blessed. We have truly seen GOD's reviving power among us. Now, we cannot ever attribute HIS moving to anything as small as a sermon series, however, this community during this series of talks has come together in unity and drawn HEAVEN, GOD's Presence, the very Holy Spirit of GOD into our midst.

So, it's online and here is a quick cheat sheet of the page at the Tapestry website here: http://tapestrychurch.com/?page_id=1102

It's also in the Tapestry Android and iPhone Apps: http://app.tapestrylife.org

THE THRIVE SERIES

The Tapestry longs to see everyone that comes into contact with this community blessed. We hope that we are always made "better for being together." This series focuses on the fact that in this current climate in America, the conversations and the perspectives have become darkened by bad news from the media, destruction of personal wealth by financial firms, breaking up of families by a raging wild culture and a shaking to the very core of Government. In this time, instead of focusing on the negatives in our current reality, we have decided to instead invest ourselves in deepening the culture of blessing, encouragement, vision, unity and hope.

Hope is not in a government or even a Government official, but in only ONE!

So, don't just survive. LISTEN AND BEGIN TO THRIVE!
