Washington, DC in One Day | Part 1 (wk10.tu)

The first 1/2 of our adventure in Washington, DC includes Malachi’s first Metro ride, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, The Sculpture Garden, and The National Archives and the National Gallery of Art.

We are very deliberate with our time and our family moves quickly through the museums to see our favorite parts of each. Watch closely as we show you how to navigate to the fossils, national gemstone collection, mummies, mammals, bones gems and the Hope Diamond with historic jewelry of the famous as well as crown jewels. Continue with us as we head to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, (which the actual originals happened to be on display today), the Bill of Rights and Emancipation Proclamation as well as where the Magna Carta is held. Then we go on to see works, close enough to touch by Vincent Van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet, Leonardo Da Vinci, Reynolds, Renoir, Degas and more.

Q&A and a Really Bad Hair Day (wk9.th)

We made it back from our epic road trip vacation and decided to take it easy by answering YOUR questions and just sitting on the front porch. Lyds and AB are subjected to Poppy’s pony tail skills (or lack thereof) and Dustin…well lets just say it was the worst hair cut I’ve seen on him in 18 years!!

Finding History and Feeding Seagulls (wk9.w)

Today was the last leg of our epic road trip vacation. We did 1700 miles and 8 states in 4 days!! Today we found 2 lost pieces of history and we fed oyster crackers to some hungry seagulls at Lake Ontario! We end the day (very late I might add) at one of our favorite restaurants and safely make it home only to come to the conclusion that we need new brakes on our van if we plan on doing that again!!

The Home of The First Hedrick in America

Come with us as we seek out the original land, household and fort of the first Hedrick in America. In Swatara Gap, Pennsylvania you will find the remains of Fort Swatara, a block house that was originally built by Johann Peter Heydrich. This fort dates back to the French and Indian War. Hedrick and his sons also fought in the Revolutionary war. Don’t drive by here too quickly, or you will miss it.

Can You Say Drenched at Niagara Falls? (wk9.tu)

Our road trip vacation continues and we found ourselves in the middle of Niagara Falls on a boat getting drenched and seeing double rainbows everywhere we looked. Dustin has been on many adventures in his lifetime and he says that this one is his most favorite to date.

Our Wet Niagara Falls Adventure

In 1620, the Pilgrims from Plymouth, England signed the Mayflower Compact before landing in Plymouth, Massachusetts

We just got back from an ultimate road trip covering a lot of history in the North East! My husband had ancestors that were on the Mayflower so Plymouth was high on our list to check out. I couldn’t resist having the kiddos sing the history sentence right there in front of the Mayflower Compact!

A Boat, a Rock and a New State for the 5 of Us (wk9.m)

Today we visited Plymouth Colony, Mayfower II, Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and then ate dinner at a diner in Vermont and had the best burger ever with a maple syrup dessert and went to sleep in upstate NY.
