Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

2 Chronicles 7:14

Story Behind the Song:

I have had 3 dreams about the harvest and rain. I won’t go into detail about the dreams right here, but these dreams are always in my mind. The first one was about the church being in the middle of a field. The harvest was all around, however, it was dying because there was a famine in the land. I began to pray for rain.

Also, if you know me well, you knw I love it when it rains. Rain is something that surrounds my life. So, this song is written out of one of those many times when I ached and burned for revival. It’s like the hymn says, “Showers of Blessing, showers of blessings we need. Mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead.” I find myself pleading for the showers. There must be more.

Blessings!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Jeremiah 33:3, 2 Corinthians 13:14

Story Behind the Song:

The mystics in history were those that a person could have a real, intimate, close, relationship with GOD. I believe that there will be a new move back to this kind of thinking. As a matter of fact, I want to be the closest, most intimate person to GOD that lives today. This is a lot of the heart of the song I wrote titled intimacy. As a matter of fact, while I have your attention, here are two of my thoughts on intimacy: 1. lust of the eyes is the opposite of intimacy. (Job 31:1-3, Matthew 5:28). And this spirit of adultery usurps the place, power and connection the Holy Spirit longs to have with us. I believe this is why our media, music, internet and even the public arena has become so sexually explicit and rediculous. 2. I believe that in order to be a mystic, we need to learn from the ancient ones. They don’t have it all together and they are a little weird at times, but they can definitely get our thoughts going. Like: Madam Guyon, St. John of the Cross, and many more. To find out more, you will just have to research or contact me later. I jounral a lot on this topic and will probaby never publicly publish it, but would love to chat about it! So, this song was written from this heartbeat. Blessings!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Psalm 95:1-3

Story Behind the Song:

One day I was meditating on the greatness of GOD. I titled this one “Perspective,” because that is actually what was changing in me as I wrote this song. I began to realize GOD’s position and my position. He is so big and we are son small. He IS the greatest GOD of all! The church in America needs a paradigm shift and a perspective change. Hopefully as we sing this song, it will remind us just a small bit who GOD is and who we are.

The longer I am in ministry, (which this is my 12th year!), I realize just how under-prepared, under-educated, unwise and so small I am. This is a healthy place to be. We don’t need bigger programs, larger memberships, more money, better equipment, cooler sound and light effects or even the newest in technology. What we really NEED is the Presence of GOD. It’s time for a dynamic relationship with GOD together in our missional faith community! May this song remind you who you are and place the GREAT GOD YAHWEH, JESUS deserves! Enjoy!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Psalm 23

Story Behind the Song:

Psalm 23 is one of my favorite Psalms along with Psalm 119, 150, 91, 24 and 139. But, Psalm 23 is one of specific favorite Psalms because it is the Psalm I quoted over and over when I worked for my dad and brother in the woods after college. I had decided to return home and spend some time with my family, getting my life in check and seeking GOD before I went on with the rest of my ministry life. So, I spent some time in the woods logging with my family. We come from about 3 and now 4 generations of loggers, so being in the woods is in our blood. I still think about those times now. And what’s funny is that is one of the key reasons we are doing the Reserve, because my experiences in the woods growing up and during this time are some of my favorite memories.

Anyways, I continued through the years to quote this passage over and over through the years when I went through tough times. I wrote this song in the midst of one of those times. It’s funny, I have truly become thankful for all of the tough times I went through over the years. I have found that as I embrace those painful and trying memories, I become a stronger person. Those memories help me to be the astor I am called to be. I would have never known how to do what I do now had it not been for so many leaders and pastors that I learned from as they often placed me in tough situations. I now feel that I owe them. I am so thankful for the trials and the tough times and those pastors. I could not be who I am today without them! THAT’S Thankful! This sng was written at the same time that I began to feel so thankful for the times I had been rejected and treated wrongly. Thank you GOD, that it’s not just the destination, but the entire journey that is worthwhile! THANK YOU LORD FOR THE VALLEYS AND FOR THE LIFE & GROWTH THAT COME FROM THEM! If you find yourself in the valley tday, this song is for you… Thankful!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Revelation 2:20, Revelation 3 & Exekiel 16:49

Story Behind the Song:

Our Missions team was still in India working with Dr. Job’s Mission. They were serving at the orphanage and school. As they were gone, you can imagine, being their pastor, I prayed harder than usual and felt very responsible for their safety, support and future ministry. So, praying about missions and the persecuted church makes you think about how great we have it in America and how we have become Overfed and Unconcerned and do not care about our brother. I was reminded of both the passage in Ezekiel 16:49 that said this was the true sin of Sodom, that they were overfed and unconcerned and had need of nothing and that they did not care for the orphan, needy and widow! It seemed to me that this was our sin today. It’s amazing that we can focus in on sexual brokennes as the greatest evil of today and say that is why GOD hates and destroys people or countries, but how often have we noticed passages like this or Revelation chapter 3 that points a finger at our being overfed and unconcerned. Then I remembered Revealtion 3:20 and Jesus’ invitation to the church.

This song was written from these passages and out of this heart. Oh, GOD open our eyes. May we see with YOUR eyes and have compassion on our brother, remembering that with greater riches and ability comes greater responsibilty. AMEN. Enjoy!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Psalm 32:7, Psalm 91

Story Behind the Song:

When Lori used to work for one of her last employers, she used to call me and be so upset. She called one day and said that she just wanted to quit her job and I simply encouraged her that GOD would get her through it and at the same time would instill some things that she would carry into the rest of her life. After we got off the phone, I sat and thought about just how upset she was and how I had it so great at my job. It just didn’t seem fair. After a few moments had passed, the lyrics of this song came. So, I called Lori and told her the lyrics, which totally encouraged her. When I got home, I grabbed my guitar and worte the music that GOD had been playing in my mind.

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Haggai 2

Story Behind the Song:

Every day I have a daily routine of Reflection, Prayer & Meditation. For over a year now, I have been getting up in the morning at 6AM. And I just started to get up at 5:30AM because 6AM wasn’t enough time. Every morning I awaken, and pray, “Lord send revival…” Then I read one chapter from the Old Testament, one chapter from the New Testament, one chapter from the Gospels and one chapter from Proverbs. I also read a daily reading from Oswald Chamber’s book, “My Utmost for His Highest,” a reading from Joyce Meyer’s book, “Starting Your Day Right,” and then I pray over my prayer list.

During this time, I was reading in Haggai and as I read, the passage burned in my heart as I felt that it was a word for today. I then felt like I wanted to sing it as a prayer to GOD. So, this song is written as a prayer for revival, renewal and awakening in the church today. I have a firm belief that there will be a new day that will show the Glory of the Kingdom of GOD in the church again! And my prayer is… Come Holy Spirit…. So Come!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Not Applicable

Story Behind the Song:

Most likely one of my greatest hits! HAHA!

As weird ad I am, would yo not also expect my dog to be just as weird? Well, he is! His name is Moose. He got the name from the family that rescued him and then had to give him away. Lori found him on Craig’s List, so he was my birthday present at a time when we had very little money and were in transition. He quickly became a part of the family. Moose, being a very communal dog, would not eat unless someone was nearby and even now refuses to eat unless with others. So, I learned that in order to gt him to eat his food in the mornings, I had to sing to him and excite him. To which, he barked! (Aside: Moose knows almost 50-75 words)! Moose Dog food is something you will definitely hear whether life or recorded (that’s a lot of fun to watch) every morning if you come to visit. So, I hope you enjoy this small window into our daily lives! Blessings!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Jeremiah 20:9, Psalm 39:3

Story Behind the Song:

This song came the next day after GOD kept me awake all night to write Fade Away. It was really neat, the guys at the church couldn’t believe that I had been getting one song a week since April and now, HE gave me two. This kind of creativity is not normal for me. This was definitely a GOD thing. Also, Heart Burn was the song where I felt that the quality of the music that the Lord had given had gone to a new level. Heart Burn was really what I was feeling as I wrote this song. The passion for the Lord had risen to an all new level in my heart and so this song was written from that “gut-burn.” I LOVE JESUS! It was like Jeremiah said, “Your Word Burns in my heart like a fire…” That’s all I can say. I thought the title of the song would be funny too! Enjoy! Blessings!

Verse(s) Behind the Lyrics:

Psalm 6:6, Psalm 42:1, Psalm 42:3, Psalm 42:8, Psalm 63:6, Psalm 77:2, Psalm 77:6

Story Behind the Song:

I had been on an extended fast. And when I say extended, I mean extended! haha. And so, one night, I couldn’t sleep because my body and bones ached. I remember thinking about how much I needed and longed for God’s Presence. At first, I had been a little upset that I couldn’t sleep until I realized that HE wanted to talk. So, as I prayed, I decided to get out the guitar and play quietly. I know the Spirit loves this. So, as I played, this song is what flowed out. After a few minutes when I had finished, I ran to the bedroom and woke Lori up. It was about 3AM. She didn’t mind. I had to play the song for her. It became one of my immediate favorites because of the story I just told you. As I wrote the words… “When I am weak, You are strong… So, when You call, I wake and can’t sleep…” I truly felt the weakness from many days without food and truly felt the need to hear HIS call, keeping me from sleep. I hope this song encourages night seasons where HE calls you. Enjoy!
