Is This What You Are Looking For?

Anointing

Anointing. Is it for simple blatant power and authority or something much more? Ramone’s artistic look at this religious term in a new way, leads the reader to believe there is more to it. “…Here is what God put in my spirit as we were worshiping today, which I felt was part of that call you spoke of that He’s given us to love our communities…” Read on as Ramone again stirs our heart with art and thought…

Also notice the nice little note he placed in there about the church!

Trust in the Lord

This article by Ramone Romero is such a deep, artistic, cleansing look at the Proverbs 3:5-6 passage. “…There are a lot of different “things” each of us sees before us, and we don’t know how they all will fit together. Often it seems impossible. And then often we try to figure how and in what order. Some things seem really distant. Some are…”

You have to read on for more. I think I might begin to share some of his posts here with you. It’s neat to see and hear and artist’s take on faith.

Speed of light slowing down after all?

Headlines in several newspapers around the world have publicized a paper in Nature by a team of scientists (including the famous physicist Paul Davies) who (according to these reports) claim that ‘light has been slowing down since the creation of the universe’. This is an interesting thing since the possibility affects everything from Einsteinian thought to possible current era carbon dating! This article is a must read and has some great resources supporting these findings.

Enjoy!

It’s our anniversary today! 6.6.08

Good Morning Tapestry Family,

I just wanted to take a moment and say, happy birthday Tapestry! You are now all of 4 years old!!!! Today is our true anniversary and this Sunday will be our celebration for our anniversary. I want to further say…

Thank you to all of you who have served in leadership in any way these last four years.

Thank you to our original members and supporters: Daeho Kim, Seung Shin, Pastor Fidelis & my lovely wife Lori.

Thank you to our original worship leader: Jason Kim.

Congratulations on all of the amazing work…

on all of the various international works: Cambodia, Mexico, India, Nepal, T-stan.

having dozens of cookouts, parties and eating events

on all of the many pictures taken at DC’s various monuments.

on more than 10,000 bottles of water given away during ministry and outreach.

on more than 52 Sundays of services in the mornings.

on almost 200 services in the evenings.

on the many worship leaders you have developed.

on food ministries, ministry to the poor, ministry to the orphan, ministry to the community, gifts you’ve given away during outreach, the relationships across the nation and world, service to our nation’s government, prayer, networking, small groups, changed lives, developed leaders, people who were helped to get jobs, houses, pay rent, build families, on the restored broken families and those who were disenfranchised from the church reconnected. Congratulations on bringing two other churches life and helping them in their times of transition so that they did not close their doors, but instead have grown and developed, on being kind to the inner-city children and throwing parties for those that don’t usually get celebrated. Congratulations on opening your heart to dozens of transient as they passed through our doors and took a part or piece of all of their hearts as they left to the various corners of the world where they now live. Congratulations on the almost 30 countries we have had represented as cultures have come through our door not to simply fade, but to merge and marry allowing something more beautiful and precious to emerge.

Congratulations on being you… Exactly who GOD has called you to be, exactly where GOD has called you to be, more than I could have ever hoped or dreamed you could be. It’s not really that we have done anything. It’s just that I am so happy that you have allowed our great King Jesus to use you, align you, change you, mold you, remake you and place you exactly where you need to be whether here with us or abroad in distant connection.

Congratulations Tapestry. All of you around the world that are receiving this, having been either a part of our local body in the past or a current member, seeker, watcher or on-looker of our community today, I want to say thank you. You all are what make us unique. You make me proud. And today, as a Pappa in this place, I just want you to know that I bless you for many more anniversaries.

YOU DID IT!

4

Thank you Tapestry, not for your ability, but your availability. You have been and are going to continue to be what GOD is looking for in a very precious faith community.

In Jesus’ Name…

Blessings!

And Happy Anniversary!

Thought of the Week 6-4-2008

Thought of the Week 6-4-2008

"Obstacles are those frightful things you
see when you take your eyes off your goal."

— Henry Ford

Do you know where to find the best fishing spots? You’ll usually find most fish where you find the most obstacles: rocks, roots, brush, wreckage, and near banks and dams. Novice fishermen can’t see past the obstacles and will spend their day battling the debris rather than fishing. The pro, on the other hand, never loses sight of the big catch and therefore skillfully maneuvers around any obstacles. No matter what big fish you wish to land — more income, a better career, a more accomplished life — never take your eyes off it. Or the "big one" might just get away.

I actually think obstacles are in our paths to make us better at what we do.

They…

  1. Teach us about focus.
  2. Pound our stated beliefs and values into us or encourage us to adjust to rest and re-evaluate our values. (Pruning the old to allow new growth).
  3. Make us stronger.
  4. Often times afford the very change in perspective needed to make us creative.
  5. Are on every path.
  6. Help us slow down.
  7. Reframe the dream.

And just a note about pruning; my dad is a lifetime logger and one thing I learned from him about planting trees and new bushes is that you should plant a sapling or tree, then at the end of the season when it’s growing fairly well, cut it back and prune its old growth. When it comes back the next year, the new growth often is exponential. Pruning is a process that causes loss to afford gain and growth!

Putting it to Action this Month:

  1. Allow ourselves to be pruned by our obstacles: If we aren’t pruning, then we can’t grow well.
  2. Let’s reframe the dreams: Rethink it all.
  3. Focus in on the values: The side note to this is to get rid of anything that’s not a value (Again pruning).
  4. Slow Down: Get time with family. This is vacation season. REALLY TAKE ONE! Turn everything off, relax, de-tox, de-tech, de-stress.
  5. Take a moment to do something creative. Cars, Painting, Drawing, Writing, Building, Singing, Playing Instruments, plan a getaway with you family, take photos, scrapbook, blog, or anything else outside the box.
  6. Do something spontaneous. Live on the wild side and get a tattoo to commemorate it…

Ok, maybe not the tattoo, but everything else I said. HAHAHAHA!

So, Take Care! And have a great week.

And reset your eyes on the goal!

I believe in you!

dh

Not just bagging cans and produce, 17-year-old Nick Graham owns the only grocery store in the small town of Truman, Minn. The high school senior bought and reopened the store a month ago, making him “something of a hometown hero.” Locals — many far older than Graham — credit him with restoring life to the town’s struggling Main Street and saving them a 24-mile roundtrip to another store. “I didn’t want to see downtown Truman deteriorate,” says Graham. “I can’t count the number of people who helped stock shelves, price items and clean this place up.” Just about everyone in town is now a regular. “It gives the whole community a sense of confidence,” a customer says. If you are going to read an article on the Super Bowl, it should be this one! Here are the opening lines from the Christian Post. They share the AP story about the coaches from the Colts team focusing on Values such as family and faith! Here are the opening lines of this top story!

“Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts and Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears made it a historic meeting because they are the first black head coaches to oppose each other in the NFL title game.

They also made it notable by proving it can be done without shouting, intimidating, bullying or humiliating players to get there.

‘I really wanted to show people that you can win all kinds of ways,’ Dungy said in the leadup to Sunday’s game. ‘It’s a good thing to see guys have success when it maybe goes against the grain, against the culture.’

They are soft-spoken, churchgoing, kindhearted men who coach players that, more or less, have followed their lead in the buildup to America’s biggest sporting event…”

The Last Days of Edward Payson, D.D.
“Praying Payson of Portland”

EDWARD PAYSON, D.D. WAS BORN July 25, 1783 in Rindge, New Hampshire, where his father was a distinguished clergyman. For the last twenty years of his life, Edward was the pastor of The Second Church in Portland, Maine, where he died October 22, 1827, at the age of 44. His valuable and instructive Memoir has been read with interest by thousands.

During much of the last year of his life he suffered the most severe bodily anguish. His right arm and left side lost all power of motion, and the flesh became insensible to external applications, while internally he experienced a sensation of burning which he compared to a stream of liquid fire poured through his bones. He continued his public ministrations a part of each Sabbath for some months after this attack; and when prostrated on his dying bed, was enabled, through the marvelous displays of Divine grace, to plead, with unwonted eloquence, the cause of his Redeemer. On September 19 he dictated the following letter to his sister.

My Dear Sister,

Were I to adopt the figurative language of Bunyan, I might date this letter from the land of Beulah, of which I have been for some weeks a happy inhabitant. The celestial city is full in my view. Its glories beam upon me, its breezes fan me, its odors are wafted to me, its sounds strike upon my ears, and its spirit is breathed into my heart. Nothing separates me from it but the river of death, which now appears but as an insignificant rill that may be crossed at a single step, whenever God shall give permission. The Sun of Righteousness has been gradually drawing nearer and nearer, appearing larger and brighter as He approached, and now He fills the whole hemisphere; pouring forth a flood of glory in which I seem to float like an insect in the beams of the sun; exulting, yet almost trembling, while I gaze on this excessive brightness, and wondering, with unutterable wonder, why God should deign thus to shine upon a sinful worm. A single heart and a single tongue seem altogether inadequate to my wants: I want a whole heart for every separate emotion, and a whole tongue to express that emotion.

But why do I speak thus of myself and my feelings? Why not speak only of our God and Redeemer? It is because I know not what to say. When I would speak of them, my words are all swallowed up. I can only tell you what effects their presence produces, and even of these I can tell you but very little. Oh, my sister, my sister! Could you but know what awaits the Christian; could you only, know so much as I know, you could not refrain from rejoicing, and even leaping for joy. Labors, trials, troubles would be nothing: you would rejoice in afflictions, and glory in tribulations; and, like Paul and Silas, sing God’s praises in the darkest night, and in the deepest dungeon. You have known a little of my trials and conflicts, and know that they have been neither few nor small; and I hope this glorious termination of them will serve to strengthen your faith, and elevate your hope.

And now, my dear, DEAR sister, farewell. Hold on your Chris¬¬tian course but a few days longer, and you will meet, in heaven,

Your happy and affectionate brother,
Edward Payson

September 21, he exclaimed, “Oh, what a blessed thing it is to lose one’s will! Since I have lost my will, I have found happiness. There can be no such thing as disappointment to me, for I have no desires but that God’s will may be accomplished.”

“It sounds so flat, when people tell me that it is just for God to afflict me, as if justice did not require infinitely more.”

He was asked, “Do you feel yourself recon¬ciled?”—“Oh! That is too cold. I rejoice, I triumph! And this happiness will endure as long as God Himself, for it consists in admiring and adoring Him.”

“I can find no words to express my happiness. I seem to be swimming in a river of pleasure, which is carrying me on to the great fountain.”

Good Morning! (Welcome Message)

…or, better said; good afternoon! I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Everything is great in mine. Lori is doing well and the baby planning is going on like Donkey Kong! This year is truly going to be a whirlwind kind of year.

The church is wonderful and as you can see, in our on-going plan to make life as simple as possible, we have come up with our latest time and money saving solution for the church. We are not going to be using constant sontact for our email list any longer pending this test. So, let us know if you want to be removed from the Thread events and encouragement email weekly. We have built our email list into our church weblog and now, everything is a one step process, not to mention the money we are saving.

Some of our plans this year include:
1. Changing our venue for our Tapestry Sunday Nights
2. Along with that, changing our time to a more cool and classy time that’s a bit more culturally relevant to our area.
3. Start a NEW Sunday Morning Service by summer. (Planning is happening right now). This service will NOT replace the current Tapestry Service (MY FAVORITE TIME). Instead, it will be a new service purposely aiming to reach a new morning family crowd, effectively reaching out to the 10:30-11:30AM crowd.
4. Continue the plan with the Reserve, building our refreshing center, placing it in trust and finsihing the financing project.
5. Have one BIG family FUN event every month!
6. Keep doing GSF every second Saturday of the month.
7. Have an amazing summer with the cookout series and much more.
8. Send out up to 5 mission teams with GSF and COF.

The goal for the year is to have fun and reach out to others all year long while truly pursuing the PRESENCE of GOD.

I think we can do it. And I must say that I am so happy that all of you are along for the journey!

Let’s chat later…

Title| “Choices”
Author| Byron Pulsifer

Choices. We all make them everyday. Some are good, and some are not so
good. You can surrender your destiny to the desires of others, or you
can make your own. The point is that we can make choices that help us
to move forward through adversity, or we may make choices that assist
others to move beyond or through some of life’s issues.

“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice;
it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
William Jennings Bryan

Choices are within everyone’s command. No one has to do, or is
obligated to live their lives as others live.

On the other hand, inevitably at some point in our lives, we witness,
first-hand, choices that other people, friends, family members or
colleagues make that we can clearly see are leading them down a
slippery slope to either immediate devastating consequences, or a
future that can be potentially harmful.

As caring people, we probably have all made efforts to try and assist
other individuals to change or alter a choice so they won’t
experience what we feel will be negative reactions, rejection, or,
worse still, criminal prosecutions. While there is nothing inherently
wrong or misguided about our good intentions, the ultimate choice
people make is entirely up to them. We can’t live other people’s
lives for them; we don’t want to put ourselves in any position that
appears or demonstrates that we own their problems or own their
choices. These people own their own lives; they make the choices, good
or bad.

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else
expects of you.
Never excuse yourself.”
Henry Ward Beecher

Choices. We make hundreds of choices in our lives. Other people make
hundreds of choices. We might wish and hope that we can change other
peoples’ choices so they can avoid potential problems be that drug
abuse, alcohol, relationships, parenting and on and on. But, we cannot
make choices for others – what we can strive to do is offer
constructive opinions or suggestions, when asked, or referrals to
professionals who can assist in one’s decision-making. A quote by W.
Clement Stone may help you, or may help others keep moving forward
through the never-ending maze of choices:

“You always do what you want to do. This is true with every act. You
may say that you had to do something, or that you were forced to, but
actually, whatever you do, you do by choice. Only you have the power to
choose for yourself.”

WORDS OF WISDOM IN THE FORM OF QUOTES:
“We design our lives through the power of choices.”
Richard Bach

“And if I may be so bold to offer my last piece of advice for someone
seeking and needing to make changes in their life-If you don’t like
how things are, change it! You’re not a tree. You have the ability to
totally transform every area in your life-and it all begins with your
very own power of choice.”
Jim Rohn

“It is always your next move.”
Napoleon Hill

“You don’t have to buy from anyone. You don’t have to work at any
particular job. You don’t have to participate in any given
relationship. You can choose.”
Harry Browne

“When you have to make a choice and don’t make it, that in itself is
a choice.”
William James

Title| New Contest in Search of Best Soul-Winning Method
Author| Audrey Barrick
Credit| Christian Post Reporter
Date| Mon, Jan. 22 2007 01:19 PM ET

A new contest has kicked off to find some of the best methods of evangelism.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage all believers to take part in the Great Commission and lead people to Christ. The man behind the contest is an average Christian who doesn’t know much about how people are saved other than to cheer during altar calls and occasionally help lead someone to Jesus.

Donald Mitchell is a 60-year-old strategy consultant in Boston. He is also a minor celebrity among book buyers and writers for his online book reviews, as Forbes magazine described him.

Mitchell usually attends internet services for Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. As a youngster, he was a “backslidder” about going to Sunday School, he told The Christian Post in an e-mail, and was regularly evangelized to return. He only began witnessing in the last year or two.

But one day in August 2006, he was moved by a Bill Keller devotional and received a new commission.

“[God] told me to launch a contest to find better ways to save more souls through Jesus by using the 2,000 percent solution process and then to publicize what is learned as widely as possible,” Mitchell wrote in his blog.

“I’m very humbled that God wants me to take on this task,” he said.

Already, numerous entries on the best and most creative soul-winning methods have been e-mailed, most of which describes programs that operate at much less than one percent of the cost of programs that evangelists “brag about” as being very cost effective, Mitchell added.

More than a decade ago, God had called Mitchell to a project to help the world make 400 years worth of normal progress in the 20 years between 2015 and 2035. Since that calling, he published The 2,000 Percent Solution which describes how to accomplish 20 times the current results with the same effort and resources – The 2,000 Percent Solution Workbook and other books on productivity.

Now, he’s setting out to co-author The 2,000 Percent Solution for Saving Souls with the winner of his newly launched contest.

The 101 next best solutions to saving souls will be selected and featured in a second book, The 101 Great Solutions for Saving More Souls.

“We tend to think of evangelists and pastors as having this responsibility,” said Mitchell, according to Agape Press, “but really it’s one that we all have.”

“If all Christians do their part, we can create an enormous spread of knowledge about Christianity and our personal experiences with Christianity . . . and allow those who then want to be saved to be saved.”

Mitchell hopes to have the books available for Christmas 2007. All profits and royalties from the books will be donated for “implementing the solutions” described in the books.

Contest entries are being accepted until Easter.

John Hyde, 1865-1912, Missionary to India

John Hyde 1865-1912 John Hyde, better known as “The Praying Hyde,” was born in Carrollton, Illinois. His father was a Presbyterian minister who faithfully proclaimed the Gospel message and called for the Lord to thrust out laborers into His harvest. He prayed this prayer not only in the pulpit but also in the home, around the family altar. This made an indelible impression on the life of young John, as he grew up in that atmosphere. John was graduated from Cathage College with such high honors that he was elected to a position on the faculty. However, he had heard the divine call to the regions beyond, and was not disobedient to the heavenly vision. So he resigned his posi- tion and entered the Presbyterian seminary. In Chicago, he was graduated in the spring of 1892 and sailed for India the following October. His ministry of prayer in India during the next 20 years was such that the natives referred to him as “the man who never sleeps.” Some termed him “the apostle of prayer.” But more familiarly he was known as “the praying Hyde.” He was all these and more, for deep in India’s Punjab, he envi- sioned his Master, and face to face with the eternal, he learned lessons of prayer which were amazing. Often he spent 30 days and nights in prayer, and many times was on his knees in deep intercession for 36 hours at a time. His work among the villages was very successful, in that for many years he won four to ten people a day to the Lord Jesus Christ. Hyde was instrumental in establishing the annual Sialkote Conferences, from which thousands of mission- aries and native workers returned to the stations, empowered anew and afresh for the work of reaching India with the Gospel. Hyde’s life of sacrifice, humility, love for souls and deep spirituality, as well as his example in the ministry of intercession, inspired many others to effect these graces in their own lives and ministries. He died February 17, 1912. His last words were, “Shout the victory of Jesus Christ!”

And Just to close, don’t forget, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade or better yet, lemon meringue pie! WOOT!

And as always, my prayer is that the Lord blesses and keeps you, that He shines His face upon you and that He draws you closer to others as He leads you nearer to His Presence.

Blessings!
