what’s shaking? | Ross Moore

In light of today’s events, I wanted to share a verse with you guys that has new meaning for me.

Matthew 27: (when Jesus died)

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open.

Which of course was followed up by:

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

Wake up friends, God is no longer on that cross and his Power, which resides in you and me through his spirit, is more than capable!

God bless

Android… Here we come little robots!

ACTIVAT3 is about to enter the Android world in a few moments. That’s right, our native Android App for all Android Phones is almost complete. So, if you are an Android user, keep your eyes open. We are making the submission now and we will let you know when it is ready.

This app will make it easier for you to do all the things you need while at the conference. And after the conference is over, there will be a few surprises!

We hope you like it.

The Father Wants to Give Bread… | Oswald Chambers

What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? -Matthew 7:9

The illustration of prayer that our Lord used here is one of a good child who is asking for something good. We talk about prayer as if God hears us regardless of what our relationship is to Him (see Matthew 5:45). Never say that it is not God's will to give you what you ask. Don't faint and give up, but find out the reason you have not received; increase the intensity of your search and examine the evidence. Is your relationship right with your spouse, your children, and your fellow students? Are you a "good child" in those relationships? Do you have to say to the Lord, "I have been irritable and cross, but I still want spiritual blessings"? You cannot receive and will have to do without them until you have the attitude of a "good child."

We mistake defiance for devotion, arguing with God instead of surrendering. We refuse to look at the evidence that clearly indicates where we are wrong. Have I been asking God to give me money for something I want, while refusing to pay someone what I owe him? Have I been asking God for liberty while I am withholding it from someone who belongs to me? Have I refused to forgive someone, and have I been unkind to that person? Have I been living as God's child among my relatives and friends? (see Matthew 7:12).

I am a child of God only by being born again, and as His child I am good only as I "walk in the light" (1 John 1:7). For most of us, prayer simply becomes some trivial religious expression, a matter of mystical and emotional fellowship with God. We are all good at producing spiritual fog that blinds our sight. But if we will search out and examine the evidence, we will see very clearly what is wrong- a friendship, an unpaid debt, or an improper attitude. There is no use praying unless we are living as children of God. Then Jesus says, regarding His children, "Everyone who asks receives . . ." (Matthew 7:8).

Hurricane Planning & More for this Weekend

Hey Everyone,

Just so you know, you may get this email twice, but that really does not matter to me at this point. I am sending this email as kind of a barrage in order to make sure that everyone is notified and connected and so that no one is left out.

As everyone around here is well aware, there is a hurricane coming through our area this weekend and that leaves all weekend activities a bit up in the air. So, here is what I want to share:

1 – We will be abiding by Montgomery County’s School closing procedures. So, if you listen to WTOP and hear that Montgomery County Weekend activities are canceled, this means that our services are canceled.

2 – Even if services are not canceled, please do not do anything that puts your life in danger. If you have trees down, etc and cannot leave your community, do nothing that puts your life at risk. We will see you after things clear up.

3 – A few people have opened up their homes in case things get bad. If you are in need and you lose power and you are not able to wait out any issue and you need to get somewhere safe, please call Lori or I at: 301-529-8164. We do not have much and we only have a small space in our house, but we are opening it up for anyone that needs to evacuate their area as long as our house is suitable shape for people to come.

(If you keep power and you want to open your space up as well, please email Lori at: lorihedrick@tapestrychurch.org so she can keep up with all the places and areas where we have people who will allow people to come to for refuge).

4 – If Sunday there are no issues and the radio reports that our services are canceled, then we will likely get together for a meal or something, so you can keep up with us via text and phone should you want to connect or stay home if we have no facility open and rest. The Sabbath is made for rest… 😉

5 – Guys, let’s really pray for mercy in all of this. We have had an earthquake and a hurricane in one week. I am careful not to say things that I will regret later because it really is easy to get caught up in finger pointing and religious nonsense talk, but I truly cannot help but feeling that something is up with all of this. It’s like we are stepping out of grace with GOD as a nation. So, can we pray for us to turn our hearts back to GOD as a people. That no matter what happens with this or anything else that we face that, “We The People,” will rise up and begin to pray and ask GOD to forgive us of our long lists of sins, our hurt, hate and forgiveness, to turn our hearts back to the children and our kids to turn their hearts back to their fathers and seek GOD again?

Can we pray? Let us pray. And no matter what happens, let us always be ready to give a reason for this hope we have.

And let us be salt and light. This is our HOUR! BE AVAILABLE TO EACH OTHER AND TO OUR COMMUNITY! Let’s BE THE CHURCH!

Do NOT see the problem, ONLY SEE THE OPPORTUNITIES!

Love you all! Grrrr!

Blessings!

pd

Traveling Into the ACTIVAT3 Conference

Greetings to all who will be joining us for the ACTIVAT3 Conference & Evangelism training in August 12th and 13th hosted by the Tapestry Vineyard Church.

Thank you for your interest in this event and we are looking forward to an awesome time with Robby Dawkins and the many different churches that are coming for this event.

The Conference is being held at Chevy Chase Baptist Church at 5671 Western Ave, NW in Washington DC, 20015.  Entrance to the registration area and sanctuary is through the main doors on Western Ave, and doors open at 6:30pm Friday evening.  The session Friday night begins at 7pm. Saturday begins at 10am.

We want to give you some information about parking around the church.  Free parking is available on the main streets and side streets, just pay attention to the signage indicating any restricted hours or days.  Please note that some streets are one-way (direction indicated by blue arrows and smaller light grey arrows), and parking is NOT allowed on Western Ave. from 4pm-6:30pm on Friday.  That is rush hour and if you park there before 6:30pm on Friday you may be towed.  After 6:30pm on Friday and all day Saturday, you may parking on Western.

Google Map of Area: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

The Easiest Way to Travel Into the Area is by Metro. You can park at any of the Twinbrook, White Flint, Grosvenor, or Glenmont stations where they have parking for $5. However, you MUST get an actual “SmartTrip” Metro Card in order to get out of the parking area and you must USE the SmartTrip card to ride the metro to get the $5 rate. The card info is here: http://www.wmata.com/fares/smartrip/

You can get SmartTrip at ANY of the stations that have parking areas and you should get it before you get onto the metro.

You can use the TripPlanner online to actually plot out your metro adventure here: http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/tripplanner/tripplanner.cfm

The TripPlanner Output for Saturday at 9:00am looks like this:

[ Traveling from WHITE FLINT M to 5671 WESTERN AVE NW on 8/13/2011 ] >> Rail: Departs from WHITE FLINT METRO STATION at 9:17AM>> Take RED LINE Rail towards GLENMONT METRO >> Arrive : FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS METRO STATION at 9:27AM>> Walk : 0.53 mile NE to 5671 WESTERN AVE NW >> SMARTRIP FARE: (Senior/Disabled/Medicare): $ 1.60 ($ 1.45) >> CASH FARE: (Senior/Disabled/Medicare): $ 1.85 ($ 1.55)

Walking from FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS METRO STATION to 5671 WESTERN AVE NW

Exit station using WISCONSIN AVE & WESTERN AVE NW exit

Walk approx. 5 blocks NE on Western Ave.

And here is the walking map:

If you decide to arrive early and have dinner, there are a number of restaurants along Connecticut Ave noted on the map and there are additional places (a diner, Subway, Bread and Chocolate, Pumpernickles Deli, etc.) not seen on the map.  It’s a very safe area and a nice walk from the church.  This is also where we recommend you go for lunch on Saturday.

We pray travelling mercies for all that are coming, and are excited about all that the Lord is going to do.

Many Blessings
